Not all handyman services are equal…..

When it comes to dealing with problems with our computers and laptops my husband is the go to guy in our house, but when the lawn needs mowing, fences need to be repaired, or we need tree removal and clean up after a bad storm I look to hire local handymen to do the job.
Hiring a handyman to take care of the tasks that my husband either doesn’t have the time for like mowing the lawn, or the knowhow of more complex work like installing a new roof has so far proven to be beneficial for our family. This is not the case for some people though as I have discovered.
When looking for a good reliable handyman there are a few simple rules to follow to be sure that you will not get taken advantage of and that you get the best service for your dollar.
1) Ask friends and neighbors – the best way to find good solid help is to ask someone that has already hired or contracted a local handyman. Word of mouth can be the best way to weed out the good guys from the bad guys.
2) Only hire licensed and insured handymen. Anyone can get a truck, have a company logo or name printed on the side and call themselves a legitimate business but unless they have the proper insurances or licenses don’t hire them.
3) Ask for professional references. References should be from customers, not the friends and family of the businessman.
4) Finally and most importantly, never pay for a service upfront and always get estimates and invoices in writing.
By adhering to these simple guidelines when considering the hiring of a handyman service will enable you to find the best person to for the job.
