Thinking about going green...

One should really think about going green and how we can help the environment. It’s a big issue today, and one that a lot of large companies like enigin PLC have taken on. I have often wondered how to help the environment more in my day to day life. I’ve thought about little things they say make a difference such as turning the lights off. I even mentioned it to my husband. However he got on the bandwagon for an entirely different reason and it had something to do with the electric bill, I think.

All this has led to some very strange occurances, hubby now goes into our tiny kitchen in the dark. It’s a small kitchen with no windows at the back of the front room that’s always dark, and now I sometimes catch him in there attempting to wash dishes in the dark. I tell him off and turn the lights on. It happens often. I am now the light-switcher-oner. Unbeknowenest to him (who doesn’t know much about recycling) likes to save (hoard?) plastic bottles and will even take them out of the garbage bin if I throw them away so he can reuse the big two litre bottles for water to fill up the car if need be.

I must admit I envy his natural inclination to recycle and be prepared even without having to be educated about it or to follow (or think about following) the latest trend. Being green is very trendy now isn’t it?

Do you remember years ago when we thought some of those nuclear protesters were a bunch of nutters and collecting cans was something whinos (wandering drunkards) did in the States to get a few cents. Now in the UK we have door stop pick up. This is probably because if they conveniently come to the door (or force you with legislation) one will do it for free!
